FAQ

Media3
  • WHAT IS VIRTUAL PRODUCTION?
Virtual Production (VP) refers to a filmmaking technique that allows for real-time visual effects and background imagery to be rendered on-set through video wall displays and in-camera visual effects. This allows filmmakers to shoot scenes that would normally require complex VFX in post-production to instead appear realized in real time as actors perform on set. Some key aspects of virtual production include: - LED video walls and ceilings that display interactive background imagery reacting to camera movements and positions to provide parallax and perspective. This creates immersive environments for actors to perform within. - Real-time motion capture and facial capture to animate digital characters and assets that integrate live on set with practical footage. - In-camera VFX that combine practical footage with CGI elements rendered interactively so filmmakers can see final composite shots real-time in the camera without waiting for post. - Pre-visualization and simulcam technologies to allow filming against pre-rendered VR backgrounds or rough animations that provide interactive perspective and framing references live on set. By shooting with virtual production, films can achieve complex visuals in-camera while still capturing authentic performances, saving time and budget traditionally spent on post VFX. It brings many post processes onto the live set. Please watch an introduction video to ICVFX here,
